Chernobylservice Garage
Гараж «Чернобыльсервиса»
Chernobylservice is a cemetery of abandoned heavy engineering vehicles in Pripyat. Trucks, tanks, and machines are slowly rusting and falling apart on the parking lot of the old garage. The engineering vehicles were used in the aftermath of the Chernobyl accident.
The vehicles are dumped on the outskirts of Pripyat, at the Mobile Mechanized Column, or PMK № 35. There used to be an auto repair shop. Locals brought their Ladas and Volgas here for repairs.
After the accident it was taken over by the state-owned Chernobylservice. Vehicles that were used to clean the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone are dumped here. The steel monsters were used to remove radioactive soil, as well as to destroy radioactive houses in the zone.
There are ZIL and MAZ-537 trucks and even a IMR-2 tank. The IMR was an armored engineer vehicle based on the Soviet T-55 tank chassis. It was developed in 1969 and can plow through any terrain. Equipped with a bulldozer blade and a claw, it contributed to the disappearance of entire villages in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.
Today, the site looks like an impressive post-apocalyptic landscape. The site is still in use and guarded. The engineering vehicles remain highly radioactive even today.
