Pripyat Kindergarten № 13 Goldfish
Детский сад № 13 «Золотая рыбка» Припять
Kindergarten № 13 Goldfish is one of Pripyat’s many abandoned preschool buildings. It was a nursery and kindergarten for the children of the workers in the Jupiter Plant.
The Jupiter Factory required many workers, including women. It was successfully solved by building this preschool. Workers could bring their children here from the age of two months. The Soviets wanted an active participation of women in labor and public life.
The building is located in a newer part of Pripyat. By the time of the accident, the micro-district was still under construction. Goldfish was only used for a short period of time.
‘Kindergarten № 13 Goldfish’ consisted of both a nursery, with children from two months to three years old, and a kindergarten for children until seven years old. They were prepared here for admission to the secondary school. This building housed about 320 children. The main moral goal of Soviet education at all levels, from kindergarten to high school, was considered to be the preparation of a worthy member of the work collective, together with the whole country building a bright future.
